F51 Armchair – Futuristic Design with Grey Upholstery and Unique Armrests

In 1922/23, after expressionist beginnings, a formal-geometric design influenced by ‘De Stijl’ had become established at the Bauhaus, Gropius designed his strictly cubic director's room with his own designs and those of other Bauhaus members. Books and magazines are stored in a meandering shelf, the desk and work chair organise the room in a straight line, while a four-light festoon lamp accentuates the rectangular surroundings.
