Between Room No. 4

Nitze, Elfi

  • The "Between Space" series was produced from various materials such as paper, photocopies, 3D images as well as oil and acrylic colors and deals thematically with abstract landscapes.
  • There is a precarious harmony between painterly elements and parts of 3D images. The work deals with the question of the balance between matter, color and the composition itself.
  • The aspect of change acts through the 3D images, which force the viewer to move back and forth in front of the work in order to view the various picture elements. However, it is not absolutely clear what you actually see. It is a reflection on the value of the visible and its tendencies towards illusion and fragmented memory.

Elfi Nitze is a visual artist from Schönebeck, Germany. Between 2010 and 2018 she lived in São Paulo, Brazil, where her artistic career began. She received her bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Belas Artes de São Paulo, Brazil in 2014.

Due to constant experiments, the mixed media represents the main focus in the fields of painting, object art, photography and performance in the artist's work. Inspired by everyday events, femininity and the idea of transformation, Elfi Nitze develops her works around the question of organic universes - something between figurative and abstract art hovers. Hybrid impulses between imaginary landscape forms and figures with surreal aspects emerge from the impulse or the current will. So everything enters into an eternal process of creation, change and deconstruction. It is the subtle reflection of transformation processes with their abrupt upheavals and at the same time almost invisible changes. Conceptually, her work is based on Henri Bergson's theory of intuition and the theories of the interaction between intuition and method from the beginnings of the Bauhaus.
